With 34 years of experience, what advice would you give someone who is just starting in the hotel industry, particularly in engineering?

Understanding the organization’s goals is key for newcomers to align their efforts with its broader vision. By working towards these objectives, individuals contribute to the organization’s success while also advancing their own careers.

How do you manage work-life balance, given the demands of working in a hotel?

Maintaining a work-life balance is crucial for long-term well-being and productivity. A key element in achieving this is the practice of giving and receiving thorough handovers. Clear communication during handovers ensures continuity and reduces stress, allowing everyone to manage their workload more effectively while maintaining personal time.

What’s one thing you’ve learned from late chairman Mr. Surrendra Paul & Mr. Jit Paul that has shaped your own approach to leadership and management?

In 1987-88, I had the privilege of interacting with Mr. Surrendra Paul during his visit to our factory. He personally guided me through the calculations involved in rod generation within the rolling mill, demonstrating both his technical expertise and exceptional leadership. This experience left a lasting impression on me, highlighting the value of hands-on mentorship and leadership.

Were there any specific values or principles from the late chairman that you’ve carried with you in your career?

Mr. Paul’s strong emphasis on safety protocols left a lasting impact on me, reinforcing the critical importance of prioritizing the well-being of all personnel in the manufacturing process. His guidance served as a reminder that a safe work environment is fundamental to operational efficiency and long-term success.

How has technology changed the way you work in hotel engineering?

The hotel industry has seen significant technological advancements that have greatly improved guest comfort and operational efficiency. We began with screw compressors for our air conditioning plants, later upgrading to the Thermax and Train chiller plants. Today, we use the latest Daikin AC technology, ensuring optimal guest comfort through advanced climate control solutions. Additionally, we’ve modernized our electrical infrastructure by replacing LT panels, transformers, OCBs, and ACBs with higher-rated equipment, boosting the reliability and safety of our operations.

What are some of the most rewarding moments you’ve experienced in your career?

The most rewarding experience in my career was receiving recognition from senior leadership for my 25 years of dedicated service. What made it even more special was having my family present during the ceremony. Sharing this achievement with them added a deep sense of pride and joy that I will always cherish.
